Jacko could commit suicide, says friend

A MILLIONAIRE who could be called as a witness in the Michael Jackson trial fears the star could commit suicide.

Club owner Terry George, of Stainland, said he thinks the pop megastar will kill himself rather than go to jail.

And the 39-year-old confirmed he had been contacted by the legal team prosecuting Jackson on child abuse charges and told to expect to have to appear at the Santa Maria trial.

The prosecution believe a phone conversation between Mr George and Jackson in 1979 could be key evidence.

Mr George met Jackson as a 13-year-old schoolboy when the star was staying in Leeds while on tour. A relationship developed between the two and they often spoke on the telephone.

In January Mr George told the Examiner how during one conversation Jackson said he was fondling himself and asked him to join in.

"I fear for him and I keep expecting to hear a news flash that he has done something stupid — I think he would kill himself rather than go to prison," said Mr George.

"I am obviously following the trial very closely and I am in regular contact with people in the US. I have been told not to book any holidays.

"I am expecting to be called now the judge has ruled that evidence from previous allegations can be used in court."

But Mr George said he is dreading having to testify as it might contribute to Michael Jackson being caged.

"I do feel sorry for him," he said. "Every day he seems to be deteriorating. He is not handling it well.

"I don't know if the other allegations are true but I don't feel any animosity towards him for what happened.

"I think he was just a curious young man. I would hate to be involved in his downfall.

"I don't think anybody wants to stand in the witness box and see Michael Jackson sent to prison because of something they have said.

"I hope he is not guilty but I agree if he has done it and that is proved he must be punished."

Mr George, who also owns several flats in Huddersfield town centre, was first contacted by detective Paul Zelis, of Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, in January.

Michael Jackson has pleaded not guilty.

Well, so what if he does? It isn't illegal to love boys. It isn't illegal to hug and kiss them, unless they don't want you to. Even then it isn't illegal if you happen to be an older female relative. Ask any ten year old boy right after a family gathering. There is no age of consent law for hugging and kissing. It isn't illegal to sleep in the same bed with them, or for unrelated men and boys to see each other naked. Of course, maybe a whole bunch of new laws are going to be passed. But for now, none of the boys and none of their parents has complained about Michael's behavior. No improper action has been alleged by anyone, just a lot of suspicion.

Each person who is attracted to boys is different from every other, and some of these dissimilarities are important. There are some whose exclusive interest (or nearly so) is in their own gratification. They use a boy with little or no regard for the youth's wellbeing, satisfaction or happiness. The kidnappers, torturers, murderers and (real as opposed to statutory) rapists come from this group.

For boy lovers, the boy's gratification is important. The pleasure of the boy lover derives, in no small part, from his role in the wellbeing, satisfaction and happiness of the boy. Those who have long term, loving relationships with boys (sometimes with and sometimes without physical intimacy) come from this group.

If you call a dog's tail a leg, how many legs does a dog have? The correct answer is four. Calling a dog's tail a leg doesn't make it one. It is the same with statutory rape. The law may call it rape, but it isn't. The failure of society to make reasonable distinctions between these two groups creates gross injustices.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court got it right when it struck down portions of that State's version of Megan's Law. Megan was raped and murdered when she was seven. Donald Williams got forty five years for giving blow jobs to a boy he showered with in various locations. Perhaps he washed the kid all over and gave him a shampoo as well. Maybe they just did each others' backs.

What does a boy say when the police and his parents ask him how he could possibly let a man do these things to him? That these youths may have been given something; money, cigarettes or alcohol, only make the boys out to be prostitutes. If they require a youngster to tell how he was harmed by the experience, he says that he sleeps poorly and sometimes his head hurts.

Under Megan's law Donald was by definition, "a sexually violent predator." As a consequence of that he faced lifetime parole after serving his jail term. He is eligible for parole in ten years, nine months. However, the Court got it right for the wrong reason, failure of due process rather than an absurd penalty.

In Boston, two men deliberately murdered a ten year old boy, then one had sexual relations with the body. This is a case of murder, not boy love. But outrageously severe penalties are given to men who have consensual relations with adolescent boys. The failure of our society, our laws and the judicial system to recognize the difference is despicable.
